Mr Suit's tip on how to be discreetly indiscreet
| As a fan of classic menswear, I've gone through several phases in how I dress and even in my footwear choices. I've always been told that no one is born an expert, and it's the absolute truth. For that reason, I must openly talk about my dressing mistakes, which, after several attempts, turn into real successes, so that everyone can move forward without falling into the same error. Following this logic, I thought I should move away from the 30 pairs of black shoes I'd owned since adolescence and broaden my range of choices. I bought shoes in burgundy, brown, camel, and spectator styles across various models, but after some time collecting, I realized that wherever I go, everything draws attention. A gentleman should be discreetly indiscreet, and sometimes the simplicity of a high-quality, comfortable, elegant, and well-polished shoe is enough to elevate our look and leave a good impression on others. | No matter how many hours I spent trying to put together varied looks, the black shoe had never captured my attention as much as it does now. Its shine, cut, and combination are the element I've been missing since I started building my wardrobe.
Having shoes of this color makes everything easier: a blue suit, an anthracite grey suit, chino trousers, or even jeans, all work well with black shoes. And, of course, wearing socks of the same color pairs even better!
The black shoe is always more formal. If we had a formality scale for footwear, it would be at the maximum formality end of the scale, with black patent leather opera pump shoes being the most formal of all. However, this doesn't invalidate that a black leather shoe can work in a more casual setting—that is and always will be its greatest advantage.

| I'm a fan of tassel loafers, perhaps because I often saw my godfather wearing them. They are easy to slip on, and their more rounded shape makes the shoe look younger and timeless. No matter how many years pass, we'll never find them odd in photos and videos that become memories. The truth is that even though I have this type of loafer in several colors, I use black ones a lot for more important events. The choice is natural, and I think it's only now that Sapataria do Carmo challenged me to think about this topic that I noticed my choice for important days is always, always black shoes! Which is curious, being Mr. Fato and someone who likes to try everything and anything, then talk about it on my page! I highly recommend visiting the store in Largo do Carmo, letting yourselves be enveloped by the light of Lisbon reflecting on your black shoes, and taking a look at the various models Sapataria do Carmo offers! My last acquisition was the Wholecut "Oxford Marc" with a Goodyear welted sole, for my wedding day. And after that big celebration, I've already cleaned them with the utmost care to treat the leather and have worn them several times! It's impossible not to love wearing good black shoes—truly timeless! |
