In 1904, long before trends moved faster than people, Sapataria do Carmo was born in the heart of Lisbon, with a simple idea: to offer handcrafted Portuguese footwear, made with precision, time, and experienced hands.
First as a family business, then as a reference in quality Portuguese footwear, and today as both. Portuguese in origin, Lisbon in essence.
Paulo da Cruz transformed this small shop into a true Lisbon icon. For three generations, his family kept this legacy alive. A place where the product spoke for itself and the service kept people coming back.
In 2012, the Shoe Shop changed, yet nothing essential was lost. Four members of the same family found the shop at a vulnerable time. They left a note under the door: "We are interested." This is how a new chapter began: a different family, but with the same commitment.
With no experience in the sector, but with a rare conviction: to preserve what matters and elevate everything else. They learned from those who were already there: from the suppliers, from the customers, from the history of the establishment itself.
And, little by little, they built their place within it.
From generation to generation, the vision has remained.

Today's team maintains a close and real presence. They are in the store, they know the customers, they follow the product. At Sapataria, the relationship is not a detail, it's part of what you take home.

Alexandra Lourinho
Fascinated by written and spoken words, a journalist by profession and Romanian at heart. She always had a deep and unmistakable inclination for enchanting stories and history in general. Now, she writes stories about Portuguese shoes.
Denis Dâmaso
A graduate in Audiovisuals and Multimedia, he is our resident photographer. Passionate about photography, cinema, and urban arts, he embarked on this project and created the entire corporate image for Sapataria do Carmo and Shoes You by Sapataria do Carmo.
João Lourinho
An agricultural engineer by profession and a passionate lover of country life, he never expected the shoes and jacaranda trees of Largo do Carmo to give him as much peace as the fields of Alentejo.
Sofia Lourinho
Graduated in Communication Sciences. Unlike her brother João, she is a self-proclaimed city dweller. Always attentive to the latest trends, she can now say that she has fulfilled one of her dreams: to create a shoe collection.
