CRAFTSMANSHIP - THE ART OF KNOW-HOW

HANDCRAFTED PORTUGUESE SHOES

At Sapataria do Carmo, everything begins with the expertise of handmade Portuguese footwear.

Before reaching the display window, each pair passes through the experienced hands of Portuguese artisans, with gestures repeated over decades and a care that cannot be rushed.

We work with Portuguese artisanal footwear factories that know the craft inside out. Trusted partners, with whom we build lasting relationships and a way of working based on quality, consistency, and proximity.

WE PRODUCE IN PORTUGAL, FOCUSING ON QUALITY, DURABILITY AND COMFORT.

WHAT WE VALUE

QUALITY OF MATERIALS

High-quality leathers, carefully selected to last and grow in character over time

WHAT WE VALUE

PROCESSES GUIDED BY RIGOUR

Nothing is left to chance. Every detail matters — from the cut to the final finish and quality control.

WHAT WE VALUE

SMALL-SCALE PRODUCTION

We don't aim for large quantities, we aim for quality.

WHAT WE VALUE

TRUST-BASED RELATIONSHIPS

We work closely with the makers. It is this proximity that safeguards the quality of the final product.

WHAT REMAINS UNSEEN ALSO MATTERS

Comfort. Structure. Finishings. How the leather fits and its quality. The way a shoe ages well.

All of this is part of craftsmanship, because a good product is not only measured by its appearance, it is felt in use and, of course, confirmed over time.

OUR PARTNERS

More than suppliers, they are part of the story of what we sell

FÁBRICA DE CALÇADO MÁRTICO

HISTORY

The story of Calçado Mártico began in 1955, in Santa Maria da Feira. It was born from a partnership sealed with a handshake between two men of craft: one responsible for making the shoes, the other for the writing and the numbers.

Today, it is José Carlos, son of Mr Rolando, who continues that handshake alongside Mr Sousa, his father’s partner, still active at the age of 92.

SPECIALITY

Mártico is one of those rare factories where almost everything can be created within its own walls. From men’s to women’s footwear, it works with different constructions — glove construction, cemented or lasted — and many expressions of leather, from woven to perforated, from polished leather to suede and nubuck.

Always with the calm of those who know their craft. The recent acquisition of the Yucca® brand confirms this desire to keep writing history.

KNOW-HOW FOR SAPATARIA DO CARMO

For Sapataria do Carmo, Mártico is one of those rare finds with whom we create an essential part of our women’s classics.

In Mártico, we recognise the same truth that has guided us since 1904: great houses are built through long-standing partnerships and through the quality that the Portuguese have always known how to offer.

TAVARES E SILVA

HISTORY
SPECIALITY

Always closely linked to classic women’s footwear, Tavares & Silva has learned to adapt without losing its identity.

The factory works with genuine Italian leathers, neolite soles — a compact resin sole — and flat construction, where durability depends on the precision of the bonding process.

Perforated leather has become one of its signatures: breathable, comfortable and yet beautifully structured.

KNOW-HOW FOR SAPATARIA DO CARMO

For Sapataria do Carmo, Tavares & Silva has become a reference in our summer models in perforated leather, as well as in our winter styles — especially boots and ankle boots with tapered lines, close to a Texan-inspired silhouette.

Here, technology and handwork move together: laser cutting ensures regularity, while the hand gives the final finish — in the ironing, the detailing and the final brushing that brings out the shine.

CENTENÁRIO

HISTORY

Centenário’s story began in 1941, in the midst of the Second World War, when Mr Camilo Ferreira decided to open a footwear factory with a clear purpose: to make quality shoes, with time, rigour and know-how.

For more than four decades, production remained entirely artisanal, shaped by experienced hands and techniques learned over time.

SPECIALITY

In 1984, the factory modernised, without ever abandoning its respect for the art of shoemaking.

Today, in its third generation, Centenário continues to be known for Goodyear Welted construction — a century-old technique that allows a shoe to be resoled, rebuilt and given a longer life.

It is a demanding construction, made for those who value resistance, structure and permanence.

KNOW-HOW FOR SAPATARIA DO CARMO

For Sapataria do Carmo, Centenário represents a way of making that is recognised through time.

We select a limited number of Centenário models, for both women and men, choosing those that best fit our own curation.

SORRISO

HISTORY

Sorriso’s story began in 1947, in Oliveira de Azeméis. Since 1972, it has been run by the Tavares family, initially in partnership with Alfredo Correia, one of its founders.

It is a factory where time is also measured through people. In a team of around 30 workers, several remain active even after retirement. One of them has spent 80 years in the craft and still works on the heel-attaching machine.

At Sorriso, accumulated experience is a living part of the factory: as valuable — sometimes more so — than a laser-cutting machine or the equipment used to close the backs of the shoes.

SPECIALITY

From the beginning, Sorriso has dedicated itself exclusively to women’s footwear, creating models where femininity is felt in the shape, the cut and the silhouette.

The factory works only with genuine and natural leathers, especially soft leathers, chosen for their delicate touch. This softness makes each pair precious, but also asks for care in the way it is worn and maintained.

KNOW-HOW FOR SAPATARIA DO CARMO

For Sapataria do Carmo, Sorriso produces a varied range of women’s models, including some of our most emblematic pairs.

In Sorriso, we recognise a way of making that is very close to our own: long-standing relationships, classic lines, loyalty to materials and a deep dedication to handwork.
