Delightful. My teenage daughter and I discovered this wondeful shoe store by accident when visiting Lisbon in October 2012. Somehow, it was like stepping back in time - the decor, shelves of boxes and immaculate personal service - but at the same time was entirely modern, fashionable and welcoming. If we could have bought 20 pairs we probably would have, but end up purchasing three pairs between us. I really liked that the store stocked a minimal number of brands but had chosen them because of a real ethic about quality and attention to detail, as well as respect for the Portuguese shoe making tradition. Our choice? Two tone brogues...mmm! Cream tassled loafers...mmm again! If you love shoes, want quality, and REALLY lovely service, visit Sapararia do Carmo and experience its delights for yourself.

A beautiful shop, wonderful merchandise and service. This jewel-box of a shop sells beautifully made shoes, and provides excellent service. It is small and the shoe selection is not huge, but is choice. It is charming to visit, set in the beautiful Largo do Carmo, and just steps away from the fascinating and breathtaking od Carmelite convent ruin, and archaeological museum. You could spend a very pleasant half-afternoon just in this square.

A wonderful place to find that special shoes you always wanted! I purchased two beautiful handmade shoes form João. While my husband was trying on some shoes, I was walking around the store when I noticed some beautiful brown boots. I asked if he had the same boots in black. He did not, but offered to have it made and shipped to California. He told me to keep them if I liked them with an option to return. After a few weeks, I received the beautiful black boots and they fit like gloves!! The store carries handmade shoes made all in Portugal at reasonable prices. Joao was knowledgeable, helpful, and accommodating. He went beyond what is expected of sales person when he offered to have the boots made for me. I highly recomende the store.

If you love shoes, do not miss this place in Lisbon. Stumble upon it and was nothing less but blown away by beautiful shoes and the friendliest service. I was thinking about purchasing shoes for my boyfriend but was afraid the size would not fit, however the sales attendant said I could just send them back and receive a full return. Bought the shoes and they fit like a glove.

Pequena loja, sapatos maravilhosos. This is your shop if you are looking for the best quality shoes, all handmade, with the must friendly service. The small space does not live up to the greatness and quality of care. It´s a centennial store with vintage shoe boxes on the shelves and great taste in decoration. Bought shoes for me and boots for my wife and we are delighted! This shop is our point of reference from now on when buying shoes!

Perfect shows and friendly service in cute shop. When looking for handmade leather shoes from Portugal, then this Little shop is a perfect choice. Located on a nice square reachable by foot or by the traditional old Elevator, the shop is a gem even when no need for shoes at the moment. I'm very happy with my new pair of black business shoes indeed, fit perfectly; great touch & feel and mainly very friendly staff helped me to choose the right product.

Shoes with love in my favourite shop. If you go to Sapataria do Carmo you will experience not only the "crave" for exquisite, special shoes but also the authentic atmosphere of Lisbon. Old and new, placed in the perfect location with incredible interior design. Owners of the store are the most warm and helping hosts and they have a story to tale for everything.  Try some of their shoes and you will feel like the king or the queen of fashion. Each of them are full of personality and made for special people. (…)This is the perfect point to start discover Lisbon so don´t hesitate to visit Sapataria do Carmo, the place to be, the place to buy, the place to dream and to feel that a real business can be made with love and understanding of people needs.

Great shoes, great store, great memories. We first visited this store in November 2010, found it suddenly having a stroll in the evening lights at the top of Santa Justa Elevator. The owner (I guess he was the owner) was a very gentile and nice man, who showed us the most beautiful shoes in the world and even helped us to try them on. The store itself inside looks like a 19-20th century boutique, and the owner was imposingly mowing across it, hiding behind the door (of the stock?:-)) and slightly emerging with a new pair of matching size. We felt like at a performance, held especially for us. We bought 3 pairs and...we still have them. It is an incomparable pleasure to wear those boots and shoes. In a couple of weeks we are going to visit Portugal once again, and “Sapataria do Carmo” is definitely the mandatory place to stop in. I wish you guys keep the goods and your wonderful atmosphere and service at the same highest level!

Fabulous shoe shop with great service and reasonable prices. On reading other reviews I was excited to pay this shop a visit but never expected to be able to afford the lovely pair of boots I now have. The sales professional was extremely helpful and friendly. Although I didn't see exactly what I wanted on display, by describing what I was looking for he was able to go into his storeroom and quickly return with several good options, one of which ended up being my new boots.

Great service, excellent shoes. During our short stay in Lisbon, we've visited this little shop. The host offered us a great selection of shoes of very high quality. If you're looking for a great pair of handmade Portuguese shoes, this is a good place to start.

Swoon-worthy shoes on a charming square. The quality of the shoes sold here is beyond anything I've seen in the US - aside from custom-made shoes. And I don't understand how they can charge so little for them. The shoes are gorgeous. My husband bought two pairs and I got some lovely boots.  If you don't want to pack them home, the store and it's very helpful staff is happy to ship your shoes. Just be aware that you will NOT be able to get the VAT back if you ship the shoes, because you need to have the items *with* you at the airport to get the tax back.

New owners, great quality. I'm a bit of a nut about good men's shoes. Spend more on fewer pairs is my mantra. Buy quality. I was delighted to meet one of the new, young owners offering handmade Portuguese footwear. Small shop, good selection. Found a subtle, pewter color pair of perforated oxfords by Gino Bianchi.
